1. Employers are experiencing a talent crisis in the form of a labor shortage. 2. A segment of the population experiences chronic unemployment, often living in poverty as a result
Likely you aware that there is a talent crisis in the United States. Rather, we might say that employers across the nation are experiencing a labor shortage as they struggle to identify workers who bring value to the organization. Employers are struggling to identify workers with strong foundational soft skills, as well as solid job specific capability. And, employers are struggling with the time it takes to identify the highest quality talent in the marketplace. Often, employers are interviewing five applicants for every one hired. Getting it wrong increases the cost of turn-over and hurts the bottom line.
Research validates that employers are requiring baseline or foundational skills lacking in the available candidate pool. Skills such as communication, problem solving, and critical thinking. This is known as the skills gap. As a result, employers find themselves facing a complex talent acquisition environment.
Simultaneously, there is a population of chronically unemployed folks; uncounted in unemployment statistics. These folks are living right next door (so to speak) to the same employers who are struggling to identify valuable workers every day. These folks have experienced barriers to sustained employment for a variety of reasons: unstable home life, past decisions, lack of education or support resources, perhaps recovering from substance abuse.. Very often this segment of our communities are living in poverty.
But, we believe we have a unique and transformational solution. And, we are compelled to get involved as a means to improve the lives of the workforce in our communities, to eliminate poverty, and simultaneously provide employers with a value added candidate pool.
